Since I haven’t done one of these posts in a couple of weeks, I’m listing more than “a few” of my favorite things. Despite the impending arrival of Hurricane Irene, I still have plenty to be happy about. Being that my neighborhood was part of the mandatory evacuation zone in NYC, it was lucky that I needed to be in Massachusetts for an appointment this weekend. Even though I’m definitely not escaping the storm, I’m looking forward to just relaxing in my parents’ house, possibly playing board games, getting the opportunity to finish reading The Help, and working on some more DIY projects to decorate my apartment (assuming my apartment and furnishings aren’t ruined when I get back–I’m on the 1st floor!). I admit I’ve bought into this storm (literally) more than I planned, since I just took a trip to stock up on some non-perishables (okay, and nail polish), since it sounds pretty likely that we’re going to lose power here. The good news is that I just found out I was offered the lead role in a play called Den of Thieves! If you live in the path of the Hurricane, please be safe! In the meantime, here a few things keeping me hopeful that Hurricane Irene won’t be as devastating as it’s predicted to be…

My DIY artwork--the lime green medallion and ikat prints for my bedroom, and the red, black and white prints for my kitchen! I can't wait to hang these and give my apartment some more personality when I get back to NYC.

We cut some gorgeous dahlias from our garden before the storm arrives, since we'll be able to better enjoy them in the house before the wind knocks them over.

In the spirit of the hurricane, I remembered I still had Pat O'Brien's Hurricane Cocktail Mix that I purchased in New Orleans after I went to help clean up Katrina and Rita. I can't imagine drinking anything else during the storm, since it was all I drank helping to clean up (well, besides water)!

I love these bling-ed out pumpkins that I spied during a trip to Marshall's yesterday. Looking forward to my own DIY take on them with real pumpkins in just a few weeks when fall arrives!

Even though this vase is the opposite of autumn, I'm obsessed with the idea of using my vintage costume pearl necklaces that are no longer wearable to dress-up a plain vase. Pearls make everything seem more fabulous!

I love these DIY benches and ottoman's! I posted the tutorial on my Mom's facebook wall (yeah.) hoping she'd offer her fabulous sewing skills up, but she ignored the post. One of these would look great in my place!
What are you doing to keep busy during Hurricane Irene? Or if you’re not in the path of the storm, what’s your favorite thing to do during storms?
