In & Around: Beauty & The Beats II at RARE Salon

Back on September 18th, which seems like forever ago, I attended Beauty & the Beats II at RARE Salon in Tribeca!

Beauty & the Beats II at RARE offered specialty services for its attendees at an amazing price. I entered the salon to be greated with a fabulous mimosa–a Sunday-morning must-have! For $40 new and existing clients were treated to shampoo/conditioning treatments with luxury Oribe products used, scalp massage and blowouts, “Zoom Groom” for the guys, custom manicures by legendary celebrity nail artist Naomi Yasuda (my choice of service, and well worth the wait!), and makeup featuring the uber lovely Ashley Spedale. RARE kept sweet-toothed guests satisfied with 200 mini gourmet cupcakes in mouth-watering flavors- Cinnamon Toast, Vanilla, & Red Velvet created by Glittle Cupcakes (owned by the multi talented Ashley Spedale). I hung with my Twitter-pal and fellow former-NearSayer Sarah Shaker of Bright Lights, My City. We’ve been friends on Twitter for months, so it was great to actually meet in person!

Guests had the opportunity to sample and purchase the new t-shirt and jewelry line division of HARDBODY, NYC created by designer Irmak Ayverdi set to launch this Winter 2011. Tunes were spun by  DJ/Producer Lucas Fable of ONESOUND LABEL. Gift bags were provided for guests and media with sponsors that included: D.BRAND who provided a custom selection of denim jeans, REED SPACE supplied keepsake graphic/logo tote bags, TOUGH LOVE with their signature heat pins, ORIBE, KISS with nail tips, and HARDBODY with a limited selection of feather jewelry for a selection of press. Celebrity sneaker artist Mike Cole (MIKEY LIKES IT, NYC) was also in attendance. The event was also sponsored by Rawthentix and Julique Monae.

Beauty & The Beats III is coming mid-December and I promise to post the invite for my fellow NYCers with a little more notice this time! It’s sure to be even bigger and better than this one!

Rare Salon is located at 317 Church Street, New York, NY 10013.

Lacoste La Machine L.12.12 Launches in Grand Central Terminal

Last Monday, I had the privilege of attending the launch of LaMachine L.12.12 and the launch of their new colognes, Eau de Lacoste L. 12.12 (woody with hints of grapefruit, rosemary and cardamom); Bleu (grapefruit with notes of peppermint and sage); and Vert (blue lavender, thyme, fig and bamboo grass) at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal! Very few details about the event were released ahead of time, but it managed to be one of the best planned events I’ve been to in a long time.

The last few months, I’ve been coming through Vanderbilt Hall to get a taxi and saw construction happening. Now I know why…

The Lacoste La Machine L.12.12 Installation in Grand Central

LA MACHINE L.12.12 by Lacoste– a spectacular mechanical and virtual art installation– will be on display for 9 days in Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall from September 19th – 27th (with the possibility of an extension), and will allow the participation of 35,000 Lacoste social media fans from around the world to enjoy their 20 seconds of fame.

La Machine L.12.12 is designed and built by acclaimed high-tech collective, TRONIC, famous for the convergence of animation, architecture, experiential and interactive designs in all projects. A true digital installation, La Machine L.12.12 is driven by digital media and was designed 100% digitally using Smart Architecture which applies digital technology to building design and construction.

The party featured a troupe of dancers outfitted in Lacoste L.12.12 polo shirts and a live performance of hip hop classic “The Message” by members of the Furious Five.

Constructed with hexagonal-shaped modules, the structure has individual monitors assembled to form a skin, which resembles the scales of a crocodile and when the La Machine L.12.12 morphs a Lacoste L.12.12 polo into a bottle of the new Eau de Lacoste, the digital monitors make the textures even more realistic, every 20 seconds, while simultaneously displaying the name and location of a Lacoste fan, with their 20 second video. Anyone can make a video of their own by visiting LaMachineL1212.com.

Powered by the engagement of up to 35,000 Lacoste’s global social media fans through personalized video sequences, La Machine L.12.12 is using technology and social media to connect to its target audience. Fans can watch their videos on La Machine L.12.12 live in Grand Central or via a special web portal that run footage from three cameras filming the installation.

You can check out the livestream here!

Stay tuned for a review of the new Lacoste La Machine L12.12 eau de Lacoste Blanc, Bleu, and Vert colognes for men soon! (When I recruit a hottie to be my boyfriend for 3 days and spray him in them…kidding! But I will find a guy to review them for me!) And don’t forget, if you’re in NYC or near Grand Central, stop into Vanderbilt Hall and check out La Machine L.12.12 on display now until September 27th! (to get to Vanderbilt Hall, stand in the Grand Concourse, face the MetroNorth train boards and go straight through the opening between the boards. The installation will be to your right.)

You’re Invited!
