In & Around: Colette Malouf Sample Sale

If you follow me on Twitter, Facebook, or you caught last week’s “A Few of My Favorite Things” post, then you know that I recently got a new job! While many of you know it’s with fabulous hair accessories and jewelry designer, Colette Malouf, I haven’t really given out much information on my position.

Colette is NYC born and raised, grew up in a very fashionable family who owned a couture loungewear brand and has had her own accessory line since 1987! The iconic 5th Avenue accessory store, Henri Bendel, has been carrying her line since it 1987 when Bendel’s had their famous “designer go-see” days. Her headbands and clips have been sported on popular shows such as Gossip Girl and Sex & the City. See Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl here. While they’ve also been seen on the hair of countless celebs, like Oprah and Anne Hathaway, they’ve also been seen on girls like…regular, old me!

It’s been a whirlwind! I spent the first week of my new job selling Colette Malouf’s Spring/Summer ’11 collection in one of Henri Bendel’s Window Shops (the windows there change every 7 days) on 5th avenue. It was a crazy busy week, but I had such a blast! In the future, you can find me on the 2nd floor in the Hair Accessories Room each weekend…so please come visit!

However, if you’re tight on cash, or you just enjoy a good deal as much as I do, Colette is hosting a fabulous sample sale just next week! While I can’t promise what merchandise will be there and I can’t tell you what the prices will be like, I can tell you that I went last year and got three of her headbands for just $60! (One of which originally retailed for $175)…so the deals are pretty good! Plus, I’ll be there and you should definitely come visit me! And lastly, the best part is that a portion of the proceeds will go to the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.

Here are all the deets:

So May 25th and 26th come by 594 Broadway, Suite 1216 and check it out! And don’t forget to come shop Colette Malouf with me on the 2nd floor at Henri Bendel!

Disclosure: While I am an employee of Colette Malouf, Inc., I am not being compensated for sharing this information. As an employee, I was provided the information, and volunteered to post it here on Shoes, Shirts & Other Sh!t.

If one thing’s for sure, your head definitely needs to stay in the game for the coming months. Hats, headbands, hair clips, fascinators, bobby pins…you name it…they’re not going anywhere. Pick your favorite and stick to it, or mix it up for a different look every day. I for one, am a slave to my Blair Waldorf-esque headbands, but I’ve been experimenting with bobby pins and decorative hair elastics!

Boutique of The Week: Ruche

I wanted to title this post as an “In & Around” but since it’s not just for the NYC-resident or visitor, I’m going to start a new column, “Boutique of the Week”. And while I can’t promise that I will find a new, fabulous boutique every single week, I’m going to try my very hardest to find new fashion destinations as often as possible so that the same stores aren’t always being featured over and over. (You know I love Forever 21 accessories in every single style/trend post!) So, if you’re reading this and you have a boutique that I might like…Contact me!

With that I bring you Ruche. A “modern boutique with a vintage touch” created by husband and wife Mai & Josh (and their adorable pup Roji) back in 2008.

What I want to know is how didn’t I discover this place sooner?

beautiful in bows one shoulder dress $39.99

And by “this place”, I mean Ruche’s fabulous website, shopruche.com, that’s right–it’s an e-commerce boutique! What this means for you is that virtually (no pun intended) anyone can shop there! (They have Worldwide shipping, so yes, to my Canadian readers and all those who are not within the 48 contiguous United States, you also can shop at Ruche!)

forever intertwined heather gray skirt by Ark & Co. $47.99

Ruche is like a meshing of my favorite fashion desinations–Free People, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters and ModCloth, but with the prices of an H&M! Vintage styles that are forgiving on my wallet? Yes, please!

we belong together one shoulder top in sage green $34.99

What I love best, of course, is that because the website was created and is still run by two people who gave up their corporate lives to make their dream happen (along with a few extra team members nowadays), is that Ruche prides themselves on customer service, saying, “We always put ourselves in the position of our customers, as we are customers too! We understand how it feels like to anxiously wait for a package, how happy we are when something is better than pictured online, or how upset we are when that item came damaged or incorrect.”

The Ruche blog has tons of cool DIY decorating advice, like how to make the yarn balls seen here!

As an independently owned boutique, Ruche strives to feature small boutique brands and designers and keep their prices affordable for fashion lovers everywhere!

I think I’ve found my new favorite fashion destination, so look for items from Ruche in upcoming posts!

Oh, and it’s also worth mentioning that Ruche has a pretty cool blog! They have amazing DIY decoration instructions, styling advice and much more.

First Look: Salvatore Ferragamo S/S 2011

Your exclusive sneak peak at the Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2011 ad campaigns, before they’re in print!

For the Spring/Summer 2011 advertising campaign, Ferragamo reiterates its link with the film through images shot by photographer Mikael Jansson that reinterpret the seduction and bohemian spirit from the classic French film, “La Piscine”, the source of inspiration for the season’s collections. The story is told through a series of poolside images that convey sensuality and seduction. Dominated by summer sunlight, the photos evoke the type of languid, luxurious summer holiday expected of the Salvatore Ferragamo jet-set couple.

Just as in Jacques Deray’s 1968 film starring Alain Delon, Jane Birkin and Romy Schneider, the campaign shots describe a sophisticated poolside seduction, with the natural allure of the protagonists’ tanned bodies, the lazy spontaneity of utter relaxation, the casual elegance of a cocktail at sunset and embraces in evening attire before a party on the beach. The feeling of this refined summer holiday is distinctive through elegant details and looks put together with nonchalance and ease.

Supporting roles are played by Ferragamo accessories; bags with natural textures, sandals in leather and raffia, ultraflat slave sandals, bijoux like talismans, exclusive wristwatches and stylish sunglasses, icons of the Brand. Impeccable summer elegance in ivory and white with touches of navy blue for him, while she favours an eclectic style that combines bohemian elements with ultra-chic pieces – crocheted knits, silk mini-shorts, safari jackets, gossamer-fine flounced dresses and knotted headscarves.

Stylist Anastasia Barbieri worked with Mikael Jansson on the campaign, shot in Ibiza in early November. The campaign features models Daria Werbowy and Clement Chabernaud. Accomplice to the shoot was the sunlight, which emphasized the atmosphere and the models’ look at every moment of the day – discreet and inviting in the morning and soft and caressing at sunset. It creates plays of light and shadows on faces and warms the natural leather textures of the accessories, while enhancing the whites and ecrus of the clothes. “Mikael’s images exactly mirror the inspiration for the collection: a sophisticated woman with a natural taste for luxury,” said Massimiliano Giornetti, Creative Director of Salvatore Ferragamo . “A fascinating man near a swimming pool where the characters play out their lives… the flawless blue of the sky and the vitreous colours of summer… Slow, relaxed movements… The search for beauty without compromise… Rarified moments of timeless elegance interpreted magnificently by Daria Werbowy and Clement Chabernaud, and impeccably captured by Mikael.”

How beautiful are these images? Ahh…I can see myself poolside in Ibiza with my new Ferragamo W bag now…

Oh wait, I haven’t won yet! So let me shameless promote myself once again: Please vote for me (Erika Belezarian) on The W List. It takes 2 seconds! Contest ends January 21st and you can vote once a day, every day.
